The research groups that belong to this Macro aim to respond to the need to translate the rapid advances in genomics and other -omic technologies in a greater understanding of the molecular mechanisms of disease.
The cardio-vascular diseases, metabolic disorders and pathological proliferative paintings are the specific research topics on which programs and translational medicine protocols (by clinical laboratories arena and vice versa) are based.
In fact, from the fluids or tissues of patients, sequencing techniques and large scale analysis or classical biochemical methods, allow to identify "biomarkers". These molecules, able to characterize a given biological process, can be predictive of the disease and, used in synergy with the information obtainable from the clinical characterization and imaging techniques, they can assist in the clinical diagnostic and therapeutic paths.
There are numerous experimental systems used to these purposes: yeast cell cultures, tissues, organs and complex models.
Cellular crops or preclinical models are also used to study mechanisms underlying pathophysiological etiopathogenesis of diseases, with the aim to identify new factors involved and to be able to assess the possible positive or negative impact of molecules and/or the onset and/or evolution signs of the disease under study.
